New Heights

So, yesterday was my last day of my trial use for ClassPass... And today, I activated my membership for full time use! Hooray! I'm so happy and thankful for ClassPass and their fantastic team for allowing me to try it for a month. At this point, I don't know what I'd do without it! I've been spending so much time in the gym in my building on the treadmill that I can't stand being in there for cross training too (maybe except for the Smith Machine!)

In this post, I wanted to recap one of my favorite studios that I visited during the month of February. Through my Instagram posts and first ClassPass blog, it's easy to see that I adored Mile High Run Club, especially when Dash 28 gets me my three miles in towards my half marathon training. But today I wanted to focus on something even less conventional than a treadmill speed training studio. If you follow me on Instagram, you've already seen me hanging upside down! Read more about my experience here :)

Kickboxing & Kettlebells

By now, I'm pretty sure you've figured out that this next month is going to be a little bit more fitness focused than usual. The team over at ClassPass (specifically, Jess) has been amazing in finding me places to try out. This one in particular was pretty awesome because I had the opportunity to interview one of the owners a little after class and just chat. But before we get into the interview, let's talk about the class.

> Disclaimer: I was offered a free 1-month trial of ClassPass in exchange for a review of my experience with the different classes and studios I tried. I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions are mine and my own.

I've been eyeing ClassPass for some time now, even before I moved to New York. If you don't know what it is yet, here's how ClassPass describes itself:

ClassPass is a monthly membership to the best boutique fitness classes in your city. There are thousands of classes available to ClassPass members, including cycling, pilates, yoga, strength training, dance, martial arts, and more.

For $79 – $99 a month (price varies by city), ClassPass members get unlimited classes to studios in the ClassPass network. While members can take as many classes per month as they’d like, they can visit the same studio up to 3 times per monthly membership cycle.

I tweeted them, not really expecting a reply but what do you know?! They have an amazing team and Jess has been so helpful throughout this whole thing. Watch out for some more in-depth collaborative blog posts coming up! But for now, I figured I'd clue everyone in on the crazy spike in workout posts this week.

Best of Boston: Risa Edition

It's December 1st. Which means there's 16 days until I'll be on my way to New York City. It's a scary thought -- I haven't really stopped since I was 18. Shortly after graduating high school, I convinced my parents to let me go abroad to Japan. I was back to Vegas for a short period of time and then I packed up and moved across the country to a part of the country I've never even been to. I survived blizzards, humid summers, getting stuck on the T, and, most importantly, having to make a place for myself that I didn't really know if I belonged.

After being here for three years, I have to tell you, Boston, you have my heart. I don't think there's an experience that's equivalent to your first Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Or your first rolling rally after the Sox/B's win. Or your first blizzard. Or the first spring walk along the Charles River after a brutal winter. Or the feeling of randomly running into one of your favorite athlete just in the street. Boston melts even the coldest of hearts and will give you a new sense of hope in humanity.

Boston Magazine puts out a "Best of Boston" every year, detailing the top restaurants, salons, bars, etc. every year. As my time in this charismatic city is coming to an end, I wanted to share all of my favorites with everyone. So here it is, Best of Boston: Risa Edition.

Pack the Fluff

I've found a new best friend. It's not a person -- but rather a piece of clothing. And I think even calling it that is understating how awesome it is. I'd like you all to meet the Nike Aeroloft 800, my new winter cuddle buddy.

The vest is in the picture above -- I swear! The small rectangular pack with mesh across the middle is the vest. It actually zips into itself! I'll explain it a bit better.

How many of us have been running in a jacket and have gotten hot half run and have either had to just deal with it and suck it up or take it off and tie it around your waist? How much do you hate it? The extra fabric around your waist, the arms of the jacket getting stuck between your legs as you run -- can I get an unanimous "UGH"? More after the jump! :)

Feels Like Heaven

I've always been a fan of men's fashion and more specifically, men's sneakers. I guess you can give my days at Y-3 the credit for sparking that love for me. As we all know my love for accessories is huge -- they can make or break an outfit -- and I would classify shoes in that category. Especially for men. Now, we can't expect men to walk around looking like Matt Bomer in White Collar all day, every day -- they need a break to be casual too (sometimes.) And that's where sneakers come in. And I don't mean just plain Nikes or Converse. As much as I love my Nike Frees, we know that they tend to fall apart after a while, without much of a way or getting them resoled or refinished. Which brings me to the Heaven

Fashion News: Bally SS15 Ready-to-Wear

The last time I was excited about something at Bally was about two years ago, when Miranda Kerr was featured in the ad campaigns. And I'm not quite sure if it was because I was in love with the actual product or because I'm just a giant fan of Miranda Kerr. I'll admit, I wasn't ever too familiar with Bally as a brand -- I always thought it was for a much older demographic than what I saw myself as. And the stories of grandparents and parents having Bally products from 20 years ago just reinforced that idea to me. But when I saw the SS15 Ready-to-Wear collection, I was absolutely blown away. Coppola took a brand that's been known for their exquisitely made men's shoes and leather goods for the past couple decades and reinvented its women's clothing to appeal to a whole new generation. You'll see what I mean below.

Fashion News: Moschino x Barbie

Every girl (and some boys) had a Barbie doll at some point. Whether you treated her like a princess and kept her in the box or cut her hair off and colored the ends with nail polish... Well, that's a different discussion. But Moschino's Spring 2015 RTW collection designed by Jeremy Scott definitely brought me back to the days of the little pink convertible and trying to free Barbie's comb from the impossible to take apart packaging.
