Versatility
I love pieces that you can style through different seasons – I don't like bringing pieces into my closet that I can only wear for a couple months out of the year. That being said, one of the hardest things about living on the East Coast is the Winter. I have all these really cute summer dresses and tops that just sit in my closet, all sad and wrinkly. Something I started doing this winter is introducing these pieces into my winter outfits as well.
Contrary to what 6 year old Risa may want, I LOVE dresses. (I had a phase where I refused to wear dresses. My mom hated it.) And anything flowy, open, and breezy is totally up my alley. But dresses that allow air-flow in don't exactly go well with below freezing weather when I'm trying to keep the air out. To solve this, I paired this black swing dress from Tobi with a cotton turtleneck sweater, tights, and over-the-knee boots. Of course, a down jacket went over this whole look but, hey, that jacket's gotta come off sometime, right?
And for those abnormally warm days in winter? I recently discovered my love of high-waisted jeans and um, hello, LIFE CHANGER! We've had a couple crazy warm winter days this year and they were perfect for a look like this. Throwing a suede jacket on top of a crop top (like this one from Tobi) with those high-waisted jeans for just the perfect amount of skin showing? Perfection.
Tell me – do you shop like me? Or do you prefer to keep your seasons completely separate? What are your favorite ways to transition your pieces from summer to winter or vice versa?
