Fashion News: Bally SS15 Ready-to-Wear

The last time I was excited about something at Bally was about two years ago, when Miranda Kerr was featured in the ad campaigns. And I'm not quite sure if it was because I was in love with the actual product or because I'm just a giant fan of Miranda Kerr. I'll admit, I wasn't ever too familiar with Bally as a brand -- I always thought it was for a much older demographic than what I saw myself as. And the stories of grandparents and parents having Bally products from 20 years ago just reinforced that idea to me. But when I saw the SS15 Ready-to-Wear collection, I was absolutely blown away. Coppola took a brand that's been known for their exquisitely made men's shoes and leather goods for the past couple decades and reinvented its women's clothing to appeal to a whole new generation. You'll see what I mean below.

Fashion News: Moschino x Barbie

Every girl (and some boys) had a Barbie doll at some point. Whether you treated her like a princess and kept her in the box or cut her hair off and colored the ends with nail polish... Well, that's a different discussion. But Moschino's Spring 2015 RTW collection designed by Jeremy Scott definitely brought me back to the days of the little pink convertible and trying to free Barbie's comb from the impossible to take apart packaging.

Fashion News: NYFW 2014 Reed Krakoff

It's been a while! I feel so guilty when I neglect this blog but I'm back and this time I'm bringing everyone some goodies. NYFW (New York Fashion Week) was last week in New York City. For those that are currently scratching their heads thinking "Isn't Fashion Week in September? In the fall? Doesn't it coincide with Fashion's Night Out every year?" - why yes, you are correct. But in the autumn, in the backwards world of fashion, designers show spring clothing for the next year and right now, in the transition between winter and spring, designers show their fall collections for the year. Since Fashion Week is of recent news, I thought I'd take the chance to showcase a designer that many aren't too familiar with. We all know our Karl Lagerfeld, our Alexander Wang, our Sarah Burton and of course, our Marc Jacobs - but I think it's time we step out of that box a little and learn more about the designers that have been right under our noses but we haven't really looked deeper into - case in point: Reed Krakoff.

Fashion News: Alexander Wang + Balenciaga

Many of you know, or at least recognize, Balenciaga handbags. You've probably seen your favorite celebrities from Lauren Conrad to the Kardashian girls in a Balenciaga bag.

Balenciaga is more than just handbags - the Ready to Wear pieces that bear Balenciaga's tag on them are amazing but don't receive the same amount of recognition. Today, Alexander Wang was named the new Creative Director for Balenciaga, replacing Nicolas Ghesquiére. What's a creative director? A creative director is the highest position in a fashion house. Contrary to popular belief, a creative director does not actually design the clothes but rather oversees and formulates the concept (or concepts) for a certain season or a certain collection.

As all my followers know, I'm a big fan of supporting local artists (hope I'll see many of you at Mark Cordell's show on Sunday!) And I'm sure you all have noticed I LOVE my accessories; be it jewelry, scarves, headbands.. as long as I can work it into my outfit, I'll do it! The Third Piece acquired their business license yesterday and I can't be more happy for them! I also had the opportunity to try on their pieces and take a few pictures in them!

Fashion News: Tru Fiction by Mark Cordell

It's rare that I'm blown away by entire collections - in most cases, I see one or two pieces I love and the rest I could do without. Tru Fiction is designed by Mark Cordell, a young designer in Boston. I always describe his aesthetic as a cross between Junya Watanabe of Comme des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto and a little sprinkle of John Galliano and the late Alexander McQueen's lovable wildness thrown in.

Fashion News: Fall 2012 Neoprene Trend

The last word in this title: neoprene.. What does that word make you think of? I don't know if it's my inner geek or just my background at Apple, but it makes me think of the sleeve that's pictured. Okay, you get my point. So when I looked at Fall 2012 and I heard the world "neoprene" as the makeup of the fabric, you can imagine my thoughts to be along the lines of "So.. I'll be matching my laptop case. Wicked."
